Description: 

Carabus caelatus is one of the bigger European ground beetles. They can measure up to almost 50 mm and they are very spectacularly deep blue coloured over their entire elytra. It's distribution reaches form the southern mountains of Slovenia over Croatia and Bosnia till Montenegro.
The individual on this photograph is a female. Generally the males are deeper and darker blue, while the female have a more greenish-blue or paler blue colour.
