Degraded mountain rainforest -
Gedegradeerd bergregenwoud

Image ID:

Date:
05/07/2011
Location:
Lower part of the road form Wamena to Habema,
Baliem Valley,
Snow Mountains,
West Papua,
Indonesia
Description:

This picture was made in the lower forest parts of the road to lake Habema, at an altitude of about 2000 metres above sea-level. The first forest parts from the road between Wamena and Habema have been very severely logged during the past years. Most of the big trees have systematically been cut and removed, and the logging unfortunately still goes on, shifting every year closer to the highest pass.
On the picture you can see that there are a lot of gaps in the forest where the trees have been cut.
