Location:
Yabogima,

Description:

This is one of the few picures made in the wild form this species. It is a rather rare sitella, that moves very fast trough high-altitude moss forest in noisy, compact flocks. They usually move through the canopy of high trees, but sometimes they descend in gaps to forage on low trees or fallen logs.
The Black Sitella belongs to the family of the sitellas, 'neosittidae', which contains only to species, Varied and Black Sitella. Varied Sitalla, Daphnoenositta chrysoptera, has a wide distribution, ranging form New Guinea to almost entire Australia. Black Sitella's range is confined to the Central Papuan Mountains. Both species show a very nuthatch-like behaviour.
