Red-backed Shrike -
Grauwe Klauwier
-
Lanius collurio

Image ID:
744
Date:
16/07/2012
Location:
Pivka,
Ilirska Bistrica,
Slovenia
Description:

Red-backed Shrike is still a common species in the vast areas of extensive agricultureal landscapes in Slovenia, where large insects are still abundant. They are not only found in their classical meadow, wet grassland and brushwood habitat, but also in extensive arable land. They are even found often in the middle of small villages, where they can occupy a territory in a small orchard or garden. This male had it's territory in a vineyard just next to the village of Nàrin.
