The Naga Wren-babbler is a scarce species with a highly restricted range. It's range is confined to a small area in Nagaland, where the species is found at elevations of 1200–3100 metres above sealevel. It is often found in forested humid and rocky old riverbeds with a lush vegetation and dense undergrowth, often with ferns.
