Carabus macrocephalus is treated by some authors as a subspecies of Carabus lusitanicus (Breuning, Forel & Leplat, Chatenet): Carabus lusitanicus ssp. macrocephalus. In Turin & al., it is treated as a full species.
The individual on the image is a male. Most of the indivuals have brownish bronze colours, but some individuals have more greenish bronze colours, such as the one on this image.
